DNAngels is proud to recognize Lisa Hutchens Binz as our inaugural “Volunteer of the Month” for July 2021.
Lisa began volunteering with DNAngels July 31, 2020. Since that time, she has filled many roles as a volunteer, including being one of our Lead Intake Specialists. As an Intake Specialist, she is one of the first people that a potential client talks to as they are beginning their journey to identify their biological parents. Ask anyone who has been screened by her and they will tell you she was kind, empathetic and patient.
Lisa also handles many of the administrative duties that help get DNAngels’ name out in public. She posts all of our articles to Twitter, Instagram and all of our Facebook pages and groups and she facilitated getting our organization recognized on Facebook as a non-profit. As our Director of IT and technical advisor, if a team member is having technical issues, they generally call on Lisa to help trouble-shoot the problem. In short, Lisa is usually the first person we call on when there is a dilemma with anything administrative or technical … ok let’s be honest, she’s our go-to for problem-solving for just about everything!
Lisa’s background is in Information Technology, and she has also previously worked as a Paralegal, making her invaluable to the DNAngels on several different levels. When asked about Lisa, DNAngels Founder and Executive Director Laura Olmsted said “I can’t imagine a DNAngels without Lisa. I talk to Lisa almost 7 days a week about work that needs to be done for the organization. If Lisa signs up for a duty and responsibility, I know it’s going to get done without me having to do a lot of follow-up and before the deadline.”
Other Angels appreciate Lisa’s calm sensibility and gift for saying the right words at the right time. She will often post a quote or a thought in the group that many clients and Angels will say was “just what they needed to hear”.
It’s only all too appropriate that Lisa was selected as the first Volunteer of the Month. Her giving nature and dedication to DNAngels will make her a tough act to follow!
As a Volunteer of the Month Lisa will be awarded a cash prize of $100, a beautiful glass etched plaque and recognition amongst her peers at DNAngels.
